John W. Scott (1871-1956) was the head of the University of Wyoming Department of Zoology and was noted for his interest and work in environmental conservation and wildlife. In 1937, he served as the executive secretary of the Wyoming State Game and Fish Commission. He also served as the state president and national director for the Izaak Walton League.
